Not necessarily. Indiana requirements are below. Most states are about the same; at least all those surrounding Indiana.
I do not have a CPA, but I wasn't an Accounting undergrad. I was a double major undergrad (Economics/Marketing) and have an MBA.
Indiana CPA Education Requirements
Credit Requirements: 150 semester units (225 quarter units) with Baccalaureate.
Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate degree.
Additional Requirements: Baccalaureate degree with minimum of 24 semester units in accounting at undergraduate or graduate level or Graduate degree with minimum of 24 semester units in accounting at undergraduate level or 15 semester units at the graduate level. Baccalaureate or Graduate degree with a minimum of 24 semester units in business administration and economics courses, other than accounting at the undergraduate or graduate level.
