What is your schedule for cleaning canisters/filters?

Just curious what your filter maintenance schedules are. I do weekly 40% water changes and monthly filter media rinses with the water being siphoned out.

55 US gallon long.
Cascade 1000 canister
marineland hot magnum 250

8x peacock/haps no bigger than 3"
small catfish
small senegal birchr

im about the same as you iv never had any probs,,till last week that is when i added some new bio stuff and it seems to some how of messed up the no3,its nothing water changes wont sort out but its a pain with me being so lazy n all..lol

I'm running three different canisters on my 110 so my maintnance schedule is cleaning one out when I do my weekly WC so they are getting cleaned once every three weeks.

Up to now 1x weekly since I only had a small internal filter.. I'm getting a big canister this week so yeah

My canisters, about once every 2mo.
my hob's, every other water change. so, bi-weekly.

I have two canisters with prefilters on the intake. I cleaned the prefilters weekly and open the canisters twice a year. I also have hob which I cleaned once a month. I do weekly 40% WC. It's easier to clean prefilters and HOB than canisters.

Hmm. Never knew a pre filter existed. Does seem smart though for all the bigger pieces of ****. Got any reading on this?
