double plate the bottom, then due all your layout on 12" centers, im assuming that your not planning on making it too tal so 12" centers should be fine. all fasteners should be stainless if its in your budget, Depending on the outside dimensions, you might want to consider using 2x6's to mininmize the barcing required on the top, once framedskin the inside wiht 3/4 plywood, you could also skin the outside to increase strength

NO. They have lips on the bottom of the back side. I'm a renter. I explored quite a few different options and this was the most appealing. Might be heavy but the doorway to my basement is stupid. This option worked great spacewise.

THIS WOULD BE a great thing to do to mine in basement..make it look good..thanks.. yours looks great.

DR. JOE has a couple very important points, what are the sizes youre thinking about and also will your budget allow it to be built the way i posted. Its not that difficult to do it that way.

That's why I chose the brick, it LOOKS decent. 3 sides are framed with 2 x 4s but the part that you see is brick. I need to get a pic of the thing now that it's done..... I trimmed the top with some flat brick to cover the liner. Now here's where I screwed up.... The filter sits too tall. Very tough to clean the mechanical part of the wet dry due to low ceilings and high bio towers. NO drain. Wish I would have installed a drain right in the middle. Would have done the filter totally different now that I have experience. Would have done a chamber style similar to what's used in koi ponds making it part of the pond. Basically just divided off 1/4 of the pond and dedicate that to filtration.... But my liner was too small. Also need to have water drawn off the surface......

i would use 2x8's or 2x12's. Depending on how high your gonna go you'll need to reinforce above 2'h and 10'l. If you go higher build the outside like a house wall with sx4's at top and bottom and 16" to 24" spacing in between.

I have a 3hx8x8 above ground built with 2x12's and 2x4's for support. Next build is a 2hx10x10 without the side support
