How big is the aro in question? There is only a short time that a young black would carry this coloration. I can see where the confusion may be apparent but in my opinion the tail and rear body shape says silver.

The pic below is a smaller pic of my black aro, looks similar eh?

The Aro looks quite small, Brian.

And the third pix points to Black, like your's...

I might be mistaken ( not wrong, mind, mistaken ), and price is no criteria ( could be an error from the LFS ), and your pointing to silver makes me wonder whether my sore eyesight is losing it..
but I still go with black, hehe

i dont see the similarity. other than the yellow on the fish in question, the rest just dont fit.

Yeah, I tried:D the only other similarity to the untrained eye is the quality of the small pics. Real easy to tell difference with decent pics.

With the other two pics by the OP the arowana is definitely a silver. The third pic does have black like tendencies.

if the yellow was pink, everybody would be screaming silver.

if it was black, where is the dark fins/edging, the smokey eye, the some what more streamline look?

i understand that these traits fade with time on a black, but to me that looks like a 7"ish silver.

is everybody basing this on yellow fins alone?

Very much so, in my case. Very rarely do I see silvers, at any age, with that yellow finnage.

The looks look black, but it may be the pix.

I have had a lot of blacks, and silvers, and I may be mistaken, after all....:(

Don't black arowanas usually have a bunch of markings on their dorsal fins that contrast with the fin a lot? Like little dabs and blotches.

In silvers, the fins are a light pink color, and the markings look more like little lines than little dots, and they're also a light pink color.

I can't tell from your pictures, but you can take a look at these two and decide.

I can't see the top picture you posted. But after looking at the bottom picture, mine looks alot like that. Execpt for yellow instead. But as far as I've been reading I guess silvers and blacks all lose there color with age?

Ok so I'm going to say it's most likely a silver then.

Thanks everybody who chimed in and helped me out much appreciated!
It was never a big deal more just a curious question. Thanks again.
