would one del be ok in a 55g.? it would be with 4 clownloachs, 1 bala shark, 1 common pleco, and a african knife fish.

Balas get big around 14" and along with the clown loaches and the common pleco gets to 18" or more and could suck on the slim coat of your bichir.
if you end up going the senegal route, just pick them up at petsmart, thats where i got two of mine. Thier 6 bucks there and listed under dinosaur eel or birchir i forget which, and they usually have quite a few of them in stock.
