I just picked up a Nikon D3100 ($539) a couple days ago. I wanted a D90 like jcardona, but it was money ($1199) than I can afford at the moment. So far I am really happy with the D3100, it is a huge step up from the Sony and Olympus P&S cameras it replaces.
