What kind of channa it is?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some guys call this as the blue bleheri, which is wrong. It a a different species and not a color variant. But both these fish are found exclusively in Assam state of india albeit in different districts and in dintinct habitats. But both are closely related.

Gachuas may look simila, they have pelvic fins, which are absent in case of bleheri ans sp.assam / lal cheng.

You may feed these guys tiny fish, insects and worms, but keep them free of bird and animal meat, if you love them.

Here are some pics for comparison.

Channa sp.assam are the most secretive and docile of all snakeheads. So, they are best kept in species tanks, heavily planted and having small open areas with sunken almond leaves. They love a very gentle current and prefer dark setups.

Housing them with other dwarf channas is usually a common blunder committed by ignorant hobbyists. They are unable to compete for food and space and may get badly beaten up.

C. bleheri are docile, but more aggressive than assam blues. Gachuas, on the other hand, are pretty aggressive for their size and can stand their ground against larger fish.

Hi,

Thanks for the better pictures , now its clear its gachua NOJT sp. Assam. !!

Kastor what youre saying bout bleheri and sp. Assam is not wrong, but the thread openers fisch is not a sp. Assam for sure.
But both of TO's fisch have some skin disease, I have no expierience with that but looks lilke a fungus or oodinium.

Cheers.

With the fish not having pectoral fins, I was thinking Channa Orientalis, or even Burmanica.

It is hard to tell for sure with the bad coloration of the fish!

this is my old gachua

Hi TGM,

I thunk th epelvics are just not visible on the TOs pics due to an odd angle while shootimgg the pics.
Maybe the TO can clearify: Do these fish have pelvic fins or do they lack ??

Brucki's right Simon.
We need some feedback on the presence or absence of the pelvic fins here.

And thanks for the clarification on the picture Brucki. I googled for gachua and your pic appeared.

OMG I should read my posts before posting.
Sorry guys for all the errors, sometimes im writing too fast.

Now as we can see the pelvics its surely gachua, but a sick one.

@ kastor, yeah google often gives weird results :-D
I just tried a google picture search for Channa gachua, and the results are lots of gachua, but even orientalis, bleheri ,sp. assam, marulioides, striata, bankanensis, fire&ice, and lots of non channid fish like bettas,Raiamas,....

And if searching for channa sp. assam there are lots of sp Assam pics from my fish, and even a picture of myself :-D
