What kind of discus do i have?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a descendant from a wild strain. Before the Watley Turquoise Discus became available in the 1980's, the wild caught varieties, Blues, Browns & Heckels, were about all one could buy.
IMO, your very healthy looking Discus is an original Blue variety.

I would agree that your fish looks like a descendant of Blue discus.
Something unusual (and very nice) about your fish is that it has many more bars than wild varieties (I count 13?), whereas wilds (both S. aequifasciata and S discus) usually have 9, sometimes 10 bars, although sometimes fewer are seen (but really they are there).
Beautiful, very healthy looking fish. Congrats!
