What about a 150? I have about 2000 dollars to spend
Search around and maybe you can find a 180 gallon setup with that amount. Aquarium, light, and stand is considered a setup.

Again NOT for life. I’m jus moving them from a 65 to a 125 or maybe 150 for rn. I’m currently in an apt and not gonna have room for a 200+ gallon tank until I get a house within the next year. I’m jus torn between filtration that is all. I get that I shouldn’t keep all these fish in these size tanks for life, I get that. All those fish, for life? I'd say you need to be around the 300g mark, with some good filtration too. The four oscars are your biggest problem, there's lots of members on here, myself included, who would say a 125g is a nice size, for life, for ONE oscar. And you've got FOUR, plus all the others. Can you see the problem?
Even if you got rid of three of the oscars from your wish list, i'd still say you'd need to around the 220g mark to house your remaining one oscar and all the others too.
If you are limited to tanks around the 125g and 150g mark then you need to have a bit if a rethink imo. Good luck.
just 2 sponges in each filter .. it saves money.. they last *years*.. i clean both sponges in each filter (tank water )every month or 6 weeks .. stagger the cleanings so that you have 2 or 3 weeks in between doing one and getting to the other... then do the interior sponge filter every 3 months or so (if on air ) or every month to 6 weeks if on a powerhead...awesome! I was thinkin about doing that bc I’m such a fan of ac filters. Now when u say double sponge u mean put 2 sponges and bio media in both the filters? I usually run a sponge and 2 bio bags,i rarely run chemical media
i like the idea of a 180 .. but 3 ac110s on a 125 is overkill (imo).. not a "bad " thing , just not needed with the internal sponge ...I would go with 3x ac110s unless you're willing to go for a sump. If you haven't bought the tank yet, consider a 180 or 220 gallon. If you can fit a 125 you just might be able to get away with a 180.
I might have found a 180 actually, I think that’s the biggest I can go for rn. But yeah 3 ac 110s would be insane but not a bad idea lolI would go with 3x ac110s unless you're willing to go for a sump. If you haven't bought the tank yet, consider a 180 or 220 gallon. Okay gotcha yeah that’s a great ideajust 2 sponges in each filter .. it saves money.. they last *years*.. i clean both sponges in each filter (tank water )every month or 6 weeks .. stagger the cleanings so that you have 2 or 3 weeks in between doing one and getting to the other... then do the interior sponge filter every 3 months or so (if on air ) or every month to 6 weeks if on a powerhead...
your problems (while the fish are juvie's) won't be overcrowding or even aggression(at least not likely).. a 180 would be nice but not needed ..yet... .... your issues will be nitrates as they get a bit bigger .. lot's of water changes will help a bunch.. even with aggression ( healthy unstressed fish are less aggressive ime).. but i know you know a 125 (even a 180 ) is a temp solution for that batch of fish... as adults you would have to unload several of those cichlids and probably the pleco... but a 125 could house 3 to 5 (depending on what you keep )cichlids and the cat(s)..Again NOT for life.
