well i was just wondering what type and brand of filtration device everyone is running in their aro tanks. i personally have 2 eheim 2217's one with substrate pro and the other with eheim lava chips and also a turbo twist 18 watt uv light connected to one of the 2217's. thanks for your input.

wet/dry sump and an emp 400...

where did you find those eheims in Hawaii? i looked everywhere for them...online i suppose?

thanks for all of the replies. and yes i did mean an aro tank(sorry i didn't mention that in the first place). and for the eheim's yes i did get 1 of them from the mainland, the other i got from a nice lady that brought it down here from the mainland. it didn't have any tubing, bars, intake, etc, so she gave it to me for free. i guess i got lucky.

i do have one more question though. do you think a wet/dry sump would be better than what i have currently? i mean as in cleaning and filtering of the tank.

For biological filtration you can't do much better than a wet dry. I suppose it's pretty decent for mechanical too as often as I have to change the filter pads lol.

kinda figured that...

i clean the sump itself once or twice a year ...as for the overflow box i clean once a month...its simple, takes about 1 min, lol....also, never had bad water parameters with a sump.

..i never had experience with canisters.

i surpose it all depends on what you are used to

i have always had canister filters so thats what i will stick to if i had any filtration problems i may change to a sump but i would say my tank is faily packed yet when i change the filter pads every 6 months i look at the media and it never need cleaning so i would say the filters are holding up fairly well :D

Nothing is easier to clean than a wet/dry.

On the 75g, I just have a Fluval 404
On the 50g, I have a Fluval 405 and an Emperor 280

I could argue sumps versus canisters all day long, and take either side. I like both and I use both. There are many factors that will determine whether you should go sump or canister.

what would you guys says i wanted to put maybe both for my tank. i know it might be a little bit overfiltrated, but what if i put a 40gal sump along with everything else i got?
