that's a nice looking fish. is it hard to find?

they can be hard to find because a lot of lfs sell exCichlasoma uropthalmus as "Red terrors" so you have to be sure when you buy a "Red terror" which of the 2 species it actually is. in fact, I've also seen juvie barred midas sold as "Red terrors" which only adds more to the confusion. :) See this profile that I wrote on the festae and in the "comments" section towards the bottom I give some information on how to distinguish the real red terror (festae) from the false red terror (uropthalmus). :)

Is Petsmart selling true red terrors? I hope so, so that people who buy them learn their lesson.

nice to see people doing some research before they just go and buy a fish!

It's for sure a Uaru amphiacanthoides. They'll thrive in ca. 200g+ with 5-6 individuals. Set the tank up with driftwood. Herbivorous. I think they can eat fruit.

5-6 individuals? so does that mean it's not a good idea to keep them alone? do they eat pellets? i got all my fishes to eat pellets.

You can keep this species alone, althought it prefers to be in groups. Just like discus. And yes, it can eat pellets, but it needs plant-based foods such as Spirulina to thrive.

Best regards.

Daniel.
