What kind of fish is this?

Get them on pellets and ocassional worms/shrimp for color.
 
I found out tonight the owners have been feeding them gold fish flakes there entire life *raises eye brow* so i bought some cichlid sticks. Its all the store had figured id try them and give them a go...

im shocked they grew that big :eek: glad you got em, they're in good hands now.
 
Thank you sir :) I just feel bad for the rest of there fish as i seen them when i went over there tonight. They have convicts in tanks with gold fish (oO) and looked like a few cichilds in there also. They had one JD in a 35g tank and the other in the 55g tank with a divider from all the other fish and he had only part of the tank.

I know my setup isn't much better but i have a divider in a 55g tank right in the middle with filters on each side of the tank. :/ biggest tank i have that i can put them in.

better situation than they were in at least, if you build up a bunch of caves for territories you MIGHT be able to get away with it eventually but if worst comes to worst you can find another person who would take one and you keep your favorite for the 55 :P

I agree. The bigger one of the two i gave him a few more extra inchs when i set the divider so i offset it a bit to favor him. But im not sure what to do with them just yet :)
