Just picked this up today he is in a 55 until my buddy clears out one of his 150's. Was just curious what type he is and how you tell a good grade from bad.

basic red dragon. pretty decent. no pearls so its not gradeA. who knows, with good water and high quality food, it might turn into a mp

Pearling doesn't necessarily determine grade. Being a Red Dragon pearling isn't really a factor depending on who you talk to as there is no set grading scale. Hes really washed out from the white sand. Let him settle then post some more pics. Hes a nice little Red Dragon.

nice red dragon FH.. Fins too long and soft for my taste but that's your fish :).. This guy should look cool when bigger.

I like my RDs with no pearls. I like the green metallic outline around the black flower spots only. If anything considered pearls, I want metallic scale edges.. Not pearls.. I know everyone see them all as pearls pearls, but metallic scales I don't consider as pearls..

True. Pearls would degrade a FH if it doesn't distribute correctly for a person.. Like me.. If pearls, let me have it all over the fish and not stop leaving the head bald . hahaha

He just came home yesterday so he definitely is stressed. I changed his background to blue and is the sand going to be an issue or will he adjust?

nice red dragon

I am not adverse to removing the sand even though it would be a pain! What about is hinders there color I thought being against lighter things was good, but I also only can speak from what I have red, and thank you I have fallen in love with him already. His name is Atlas!

light colored substrates reflect light and tend to wash out fish, where as darker colors like black are said to not enhance their colors. A natural colored gravel is usually best. He looks like he has some great potential.
