what kind of frogs can i kepp with D. tinctorious

Kearth, while I agree with your assessment that hybrids are often frowned upon, it is interesting to me that on dart forums the first people to show interest when a member posts pictures of a possible hybrid or cross are those who seem to be so adimately against the creation of them. Just something I've noticed...

I have noticed that as well. Most of the thread I have read almost everyone takes a massive interest in them and then in turn tell the person how wrong it was to do, they should cull them, etc. I can almost guarantee there is a few people on a certain frog board that can name every member that has posted with a mixed tank and or hybrids, and if those people start to sell frogs then they will be questioned watched more closely. Again not that that is a bad thing.

I know from chatting with people off the frog boards that they will not buy nor sell to any one who has produced hybrids, has a mixed tank or even hinted at a mix tank. Now that is not every one but some of the larger breeders that I have talked to and become friends with over the years.

The mixing threads are always heated on frog sites. Some people really take it seriously ( which is not a bad thing) and some people ( most less experienced from what I have seen) blow it off like no big deal. People debate mixing almost as much as the debate the legality of some frogs.

I do think the zoos are able to do it due to the larger enclosures, experience levels, and alot of them keep frogs of the same sex so there is less chance of fighting, stress, bullying and no chance of breeding.

NO these frog we produce will never be introduced back into the wild but it is still important to the dedicated people in the hobby to keep the lines as pure as possible. This is a hard thing to do, especially with people mixing frogs, selling mislabeled frogs and generally not giving a crap about the hobby.

Ok done rambling now.

Okay, thank you for clearing that up. It was just one of those things I never understood before but you make a lot of since. I can imagine dart frog hybrids getting very complicated if they hut the market.

Holy hell I made sense :nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly: Write this day down.

I was hoping I made sense in that post. I felt like I was all over the place.

I absolutely understand the argument against hybrids when it comes to introducing them back into the market. Too much chance of mislabeling or misunderstanding between parties and suddenly you've got a whole line of animals that aren't what they are supposed to be.

i dont understand why morphs cant be mixed either???

In other words it has always been the mind set that keeping them together and allowing them to breed is gonna release unstable and unreliable blood lines in the hobby. This is why they are againt it. Also sometimes 1 species is more dominant then the other leading to bullying, stress, and other problems. I personally dont see a huge deal with it as long as you keep it under control and dont release your bloodline into the hobby. But that is hard too do as 1 day your gonna need to sell your stock. The reason why zoos can do it is the exp. keepers and large exibits.

Lets take tincs for example. There is many different morphs, many different personalities. You will still end up with bullying, fighting, stress, death, etc. Then there comes the hybrid debate...

Why risk it? When you keep the same frogs together ( cobalts with cobalts, alanis with alanis, patricias with patricias) you get to see the way they interact with each other, their socialization. Plus when they do breed you can actually sell off the froglets.
