What kind of motoro is this?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
to all those who say its not a "motoro," why not?
Actually, to shed a little light into this ray's history.... it was a captive bred pup a few months ago....

if you know its CB then why are you asking what type of ray it is?? surely your friend who bought it will have atleast seen pic's of the parents?

i aggree with you miles it does have the look of the motoro from Rio Tigre

Haha! I was only asking to have fun with you guys. Kind of like "what's in the bag." The ray is a leo X motoro hybrid 100% fact. I've seen his siblings and this one was the only one in the litter with the black spots. I was with my buddy when he picked up this pup. I wish I had the money to afford a hybrid like this. LOL

But I do agree, it does look very similar to a Motoro sp. Aparicio that Miles has discussed in previous threads. The only difference is that the spots of the M. aparicio should start to blend together as it matures. If this pup stays true to its parents (leoxmotoro), then the spots should stay distinct as it matures. If it doesn't and somehow does blend (b/c we all know how hybrid rays can morph), then can it be safe to assume that the M. Aparicio is possibly a naturally occuring hybrid? I'm not a geography pro.... does the natural distribution of the leo overlap the area where the Motoro sp. Aparicio is found?

yeah Aparicio and Leo x Motoro probably wouldn't happen.. too far away

But I have seen some pretty crazy Brazilian Motoros on those awesome euro ray sites that don't have distinct orange dots could very possibly be that cross.. keep us updated!

Very strange for that cross, never seen before.
Were the parents in a tank on there own or are there other males in the tank (like a motoro male)?

We know that a female can be fertilised by more than one male. Then the siblings of the same litter have different fathers.

I have only seen one aparicios transition from pup to adult and the spots were blend together from the beginning and nothing changed.

This is my thought since I've seen the first aparicio. Maybe sp. Peru x motoro, but I have no facts for this, pure guess.

does the natural distribution of the leo overlap the area where the Motoro sp. Aparicio is found?
No. leo is Xingu in Brazil and Aparicio Peru 1600 miles away.

That is a nice suprise! I thought Aparicio, as well. I wonder what an Aparicio Motoro x (PearlxLeo) would look like? Or Aparicio Motoro x Pearl? Hopefully my 6'x5'x2' will be a good environment for some.

Random question- does anyone know if tiger rays get along with Aparicio Motoros? Can they have hybrid pups?

From what I remembered when we spoke to the breeder a few months ago, there was only 1 leo male and 1 motoro female in the tank. there were 8 pups I think. 3 had crazy patterns, 1 was like a "superspot" appearance, 1 had the black spots (this one), and the rest all looked liked regular motoros....
