at a small size you cant tell the diff,
but when bigger mono have 3 black bars.. and orino have 3 black circles with gold spangling, orino become greener imo and orino also have tinges of blue sometimes.

Mono's can be nice. It all depends. I wouldn't say lower end, just easier to find.

Here's my big Mono, I'd say he's pretty bright and colorful:

Other than that, just keep eyeballing peoples pics in the media lounge.

dont confuse commonness (did i just make up a word?) with ugliness. monos are some of the better looking cichla IMO. id take one over all these kelberi floating around any day :)

orinos tend to be pretty aggressive and grow a little slower than monos

Does it really matter at all, with all these monos./ orinos./ ocels./ kels. hybrids, wildbred, domesticbred, farmed, crossovers from southamerica, florida, asia, why don,t you just enjoy them fulltime, "feed em,bred em,eat em ", hehe.
All 4 are about the same sice in 2 years, give and take. Raise them as they were some priceless wildcaught and you will be amased. LOL

oh its just what ive heard. to me they are all the same just different looks. i like pbass for their intense green color. which pbass is best for this green color. also looking for a little slower growing species so it doesnt outgrow and feed on the rest of my stock (3.5"-4" sen bichirs) (4-5" florida gars when i get them). this is alot to consider now. should i just go for these or spend an extra fifty bucks and get the orinos from river wonders.

If you are looking for some green pbass with the slow growth rate. Orino is the pbass to go with.. There's a lots of them floating around in the market section

yup, orinos for green. there really is no other cichla that will get green, besides some intermedias which are rare in the hobby. some ocells/monos can have a lime green color, but most will be a golden yellow. orino is the king of green :D
