1 common will be fine in a 125. They don't move around all that much.
That doesn't mean anything. It is cruel to put a 24"+ fish in an 18" tank no matter what its activity level is like, a fish can't live its entire life without ever being able to turn around.

it can move in a 125 gallon.. and commons take at least 10 years to grow up to 24".. there's no point in upgrading to a huge tank in the beginning just to accommodate one fish.... besides.. that takes the fun out of upgrading tanks...

No.. i say a 125 tank is enough. and plecos only move at night.. where they do most of their feeding..

What you need to look into is medium size plecos.. I recommend snowball, gold nugget, green and blue phantom, candy stripe, flash are all good choices for plecos.. There are other species out there but you'll have to get a bigger tank.. if you only plan on doing a 55 gallon for now..

I don't think so, I've seen 2-3 year old commons already longer than the width of a 125, so I doubt it would take that much longer for them to reach the 24" mark. But anyway, I never said he'd immediately need to upgrade, I said that a 125 would not be large enough in the long run, and it would be a lot more money and work to buy a 125g then upgrade to a 180g once it outgrows the 125 and have to set up and cycle a new tank and take down the old tank when he could just spend about 60-$100 more for the larger tank and be done with it.

^^^ And this is also untrue ime. Most of the commons I've owned have been active during the day and at night. I only recall owning one common that was inactive during the day, and it was only inactive because I had a pacu and two oscars that would nip at it all the time.

mine is more active than some of my african cichlids lol and about the 125 can you give me advice on it like what should i offer the guy it has a stand a hang on filter heater and glass lids and i think gravel

i just went to my lfs to get a rubber pleco and as soon as the girl put it in the bag it died but it was active in the tank it was in but she touched it idk if that has to do with anything

how abot a choclate pleco mines very cute. wont get as big as a common pleco eaither

In theory they should be able to get almost as big but I've never seen one reach it

Bristlenose plecos stay pretty small and do a great job cleaning up algae...what about something like that? If you are looking for something fancier look into the albino, calico, and longfin varieties.

I agree with Jessica, I have a bristle nose and just love him to death, hes so beautiful and a decent size, not even close to a tank buster. Heres a pic of him

well if you want a small pleco get like a bristlenose pleco but my personal favorite plecos are leopard pleco, zebra, pleco, king tiger pleco, and common pleco so far but any of the plecos i mentioned have color and are vibrant so make sure you get a bigger tank though!
