Does anyone here keep different kind of fancy plecos with their african cichlids....I want to buy one but i dont know if it would work out. Right now i have a bristlenose in there. I was thinking a golden nugget pleco but that is probaly a big NO NO

Pleco's are peaceful.
I would say any kind really, as long as they don't generally grow over 8-10".

depends because you dont want a small pleco, or a REALLY big pleco. :p
but you want it big enough so that the cichlids kill it...

when i had cichlids way back when, i got a small pleco and the next morning it had a whole in it's stomach :(

If we are talking malawi africans i would not add a pleco of any type...the pleco is the one at great risk..the africans gang up and pic his eyes out or just plain stress them to death... they barely get enough to eat since the malawi cichlids don't even let a morsel hit the substrate.. and if it is food that is large and sinking ..the africans will continually peck at the pleco until he is no longer interested in eating... stick with synodontis cats that can take the abuse if this is the type of africans your talking about.... but if we are talking frontosa then most hardy plecos would do okay...

my fault...I was talking about mbuna's. I will just stick with my bristelnose and probaly buy another synodonitis cat since mine died.

What size tank are we talking about? I have always had plecos with my mbuans. I have had BN, common brown plecos, chocolate plecos, gold spot pleco ( L001) I would say almost any plecos would work. Just make sure you give him a hide away form all the mbuna ;)

I have a Rubberlip/Rubbernose kind of Pleco in my tank. He stays small, like the bristlenose. Your pH may be too high for them with Africans, though.
