What size tank are we talking about? I have always had plecos with my mbuans. I have had BN, common brown plecos, chocolate plecos, gold spot pleco ( L001) I would say almost any plecos would work. Just make sure you give him a hide away form all the mbuna ;)
Did they work long term... maybe some can actually do okay..but my experiences and from what i hear in posts this is not usually a good mix..do you still have them together?

I have a 29g but once the pleco gained some size i was going to move it to a 55 and then a bigger tank in the future but i think i will just scrap the idea becuase its not worth the money right now if it doesnt work out.

goldspot and britlenose work the best in my veiw, i have malawi but the gold spot is actually more agressive then the pleocs and he is half the size of them and believe it or not its kinda funny but i have a bristlenose not even older then a month old and it will tell of my malawis even including a fully grown agressive auratus, :)

thats great... those tough little bristle noses.... i am still leary of adding any... glad it worked for you... the gold spot works great in with the frontosa.. that guy is thriving...

I have 2 bristlenose and 3 petricolas in with mine, i like them because they stay fairly small and can hold their own with mbuna's. IMO the smaller plecos with Africans are a better choice, they contibute less to the waste problem with loaded tanks.
