Hi,

It was sold to me as a "red eye puffer". It has red eyes but I don't think its one of those small red eye species cause it looks nothing like them. I got it today and its laying down in the tank resting, it almost died during shipping. I have the lights off now and its a bit more active.

I believe I have IDed it correctly.

Looking at the spot on the flank definately does not look like an Abei, Pufferpunk is pretty accurate at thi sort of thing!
He is a cutey that is for sure, hope he settles in well and gets fattened up a little poor mite. He has got gorgeous markings, love to see piccys as he settles more and eats more!!

Yeah for sure, he was really weak when I got him I was so afraid it was gonna die before I got it in the tank. I left the lights off when I was acclimatizing him. He is really skinny too, so I hope to start fattening him up soon. In about 30 mins I am gonna try to feed him its morning here now. I got frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp. There is some MTS in the tank right now and I seen him strike a few of them.

I got some pond snails on the way, too. I asked the guy I bought the puffer from what it eats, and he told me cichlid pellets and krill. I think he is BSing about the cichlid pellets. Even if its true he wasn't feeding him at all cause its starved.

But definitely after this fish gets healthier I will post some updated pics in this thread.

Plenty of meaty foods and soaking his food in vitamins will help him plump out and fight anything at this weak time. :( Oh dear not cichlid pellets! Poor little man. Careful on the MTS I havent experienced but heard they can break puffers beaks, it is a good sign though he goes for them, still after food poor chap. Have you a name for the cutie?

He ate some frozen bloodworms this morning. I had to back away at a distance though cause this fish is really scared/shy right now. He did eat a good amount and has a belly on him right now. I do got some of that liquid garlic extreme and I will start adding it to his food. I added some plants to his tank, theres 2 small pieces of driftwood too. I made a little cave for him with some slate rock cause he is still very shy. Hes trying to hide behind the filter intake and even the heater. So I hope he discovers the cave soon and likes it.

What other foods can I feed him? I got frozen brine shrimp and frozen blood worms, I got freeze dried tubifex worms and snails. The only other thing I can get now is live earthworms once in awhile. How about krill?

Also, no name yet. I will see about a name later. Any suggestions though?
