i got him from a lfs. im sure hes whatever the most common type is. i dont have any pics but im sure you guys know what im talking about. hes about 4-5", bright orange, red eyes, with a tiny bit of black on the tips of a couple fins. i dont know anything about midas/red devils so i was wondering what exactly it is. if you guys dont know the kind im talking about from the description i can get some pics. thanks

i was not aware that there was more than one type of RD. Many RDs have black patches or black tipped fines (blackish grey)

just a regular red devil/midas probably. odds are good that the black wont be there when mature

There is the barred midas ...very pretty fish...but the usual red devil/midas comes in many variations and color patterns as a baby...they change when mature..

lol, ok. like i said i dont know anything about them. i just thought that midas and red devils were actually two different fish, but that theyve been intermixed so much by breeders that they are now almost impossible to get a pure one. same thing with flowerhorns. i have also heard terms like "citrinellus" or something like that. anyway, how might this naughty guy change in color? will he develop new splotches of white? will he stay the same shade of orange or could he change to more of a pinkish etc? also how fast is growth rate and when might the nuchal hump appear?

Red Devils and midas are different fish. Most likely you have a hybrid mix of the two.

they change color as they get older some get more white than others and some get more orange, they usually lose there black color as they get older, as for growth it all depends on how u feed it and how clean the water is, if all is good u could expect anywhere bewtween half and a full inch a month until they reach about 6-7 inches then it will grow slower maybe an inch evrey 2-3 months and the nuchal bump will only appear if its a male which you will see as it gets older, hope i helped:) and gd luck

thanks very much for your reply! you have helped a lot. this guy seems pretty resilient/hard as far as being chased by the larger JD and O. and by doing so, he has also released tension between the Os and JD which is exactly what i need! this little ****er may be my new favorite for the time being!
