Hi,

Whats the cheapest sand I could buy, and where? My main and only concern is the safety of using the sand. I don't want to use one that could be toxic.

Thx

Quicrete media sand (green writing) at home depot is $8.99 for 100 lbs bag. Half the price of PFS and bright white. I use it with my geo tanks. Will be doing a mix for the next tank. Half PFS and half quicrete.

Silicate sand is effective, and is not detrimental to anything. It comes in many colors, and is not expensive.

Silicate sand IS pool filter sand and the quickrete media sand described above only different grades/sizes. Its a matter of purity if you want to not worry about it harming your fish. If you really want it super cheap, expect to do homework to find it. To avoid PFS, I pulled the MSDS (material safety data sheet) on the quickrete sand to make sure it was safe....

The PFS is proven save, so is the quickrete media sand I suggested. You can find it at large retail home improvement store like Lowes and Home Depot or a pool/SPA store.

pool filter sand. looks really natural compared to finer grains of sand, and is able to be cleaned just like gravel, since each sand granule is heavy enough to be cleaned with a "python". i got mine at 10 USD for a 50lb bag

silicate sand can be obtained from any large aquarium store or something like a home depot or a lowes
