What kind of shark

A 20' x 20' x 10' ft tank is roughly 30,000 gallons. Now if your plan is to go with more active swimming species in this tank - then I would suggest cut the tank height, narrow the width, and increase the length of the tank. Also going to an oval shaped design wouldn't hurt either.

Like Matt - said Blacktip Reefs and Whitetip Reefs tend to average about 5 to 5.5 ft in length. Bonnets, Sharpnose, and Smoothhounds tend to average about 3.5-4 ft long.

But a good 30,000 gallon tank design for active swimming sharks would be something like this.

Length - 40ft, Width - 16ft, Height - 6.5ft . With an Oval design, it should equal about 28,500 gallons. But it also will allow for a more natural swimming motion for the ORV sharks. As well as being large enough for a blacktip reef or whitetip reef to grow their average adult size.
