What kind of snake is this

Saw this while out on walk today. Western Pennsylvania. Snake was about 5 feet long

Maybe kirtland snake.
 
I'm almost certain that it's a ratsnake.

I think eastern rat snake is right on. It was just basking in the middle of our road. Always cool to see something like that in nature especially since my kids were with me.

Cool indeed.... reminds me of the huge snapping turtle I would spot ocassionally back when I used to catch minnows in the nearby creek.

Only sad part is someone will probably spot it in their yard and hack it up with a shovel just because they are scared.

Yep,people and their ignorance.
I was recently trying to set a coworker straight who claims to terrified of the possums and racoons that come out around prooerty at night.She thinks they should be all captured and killed.
