Only sad part is someone will probably spot it in their yard and hack it up with a shovel just because they are scared.
My next door neighbor did this exact thing a year ago.
I stop by to say he says "look at this snake I killed yesterday".
I tell him it's a Gopher snake ( a nice 5 footer no less) and he says "I know it's not a rattle snake and it's not poisonous to a human but how do I know it's not poisonous to a dog. "
Really?
A second later his 6 year old daughter says
" that was yesterday, and today we found a mouse in the garage"
I doubt that snake would've ate that mouse last night but maybe another night.
My neighbor is a real Einstein as you can tell.
