I was walking along the river with friends, looking for driftwood and almost stepped on a snake. We had already seen a baby cottonmouth but this snake I'm not able to figure out. It was yellow, with a greenish hue but mostly yellow. It didn't have any bands or stripes that I noticed. At its thickest point it was 3-4 inches and had a moderate body type, not stocky but not slender either. It was around 4 feet long. When it seen me (I was only about 2 feet away) it moved rapidy a couple inches then lifted its head 5-7 inches off the ground, flaring its neck.

I turned around and was gone lol I'm not scared of snakes but aggressive ones I cannot identify, heck yeah. I know people let their reptiles go here, because they do it with fish and so I had no idea what kind of snake it could be. At first I thought maybe a yellow color morph of a local snake but didn't find any matches.

Opheodrys aestivus?? (Rough Green Snake)

If you can find one of those that's four feet long and three or four inches thick, I'm sure a lot of people would pay you a lot of money for it....

At first I thought maybe it was a yellow rat snake or grass snake but the head was not slender. It had a large triangular head.

The rough tree snake is way too slender as this snake was thick.

Wish I had taken a pic but didn't have my phone on me. My dad thinks it was a yellow cottonmouth, since they can be yellow. It was also sitting right next to the river.

This is the closest color I can find to what I saw. Very yellow with green hues.
