hi ive got a heat mat for my bullfrog but wondered what kind of temp it should be for him in his tank should i leave the heat mat on all the time or turn it of after a few hours thanks for any help

It depends on what kind of bullfrog.

I keep mine at around 26 celsius. They are inside in a closed, draftless room. Only heatinhg is from the light ( no UV, mind, as told )

Well, that's for a tropical bullfrog species, not a temperate one. I strongly suggest giving us the species before taking advice.

Having a heat mat is hazardous for many amphibians.

its an African Bullfrog the shop where i got it from told me to use a heat mat it is only on half the tank so he has a warm and cool side to move to there is peat kind of stuff on floor and seem to be ok

What temp is the room itself? Heat mats are not usually good for amphibs because they tend to hunker down in one spot - and if it happens to be above the heat mat, they can literally boil themselves, and they won't move. The African bullfrog is such a frog that would do this. I always keep mine at room temp with great results.

the room is quite warm would it be better to put the pice of wood/bark thats in his tank where the heat mat is so he could only dig in the cooler side????? also i could mount the heat mat on the side of the tank if this would be any good also the matt is on a timer to turn off after 2 hours for an hour the comes back on

Take the heat mat away. If it is ina normnal, non drafty room, it should be allright.

Nope - lose the heat mat
