Looks heterospilus to me...the only thing that is throwing me off is the color of the head, it looks almost red. Body shape says hetero & they do show a range of colors that frequently change with their mood...don't see alot of these guys around.

definitely has heterosplius in it, may really be heterosplius but one of those throwbacks that never got culled to begin with. what other fish do you have in that tank, if he aggressive does his color change into something else or he stays the same...??
more than any other viejas yes. Probably is but the new fish needs time to adapt get in normal colors.. Put a mirror to him and snap some pics.. He's a nice thick chunky one.

I have him in a 180 with a Jaguar. His colors around his face get really dark when he gets mad.
