What kind of white algae is this?

What is this? I’ve never seen it? It’s on the tips of the plastic plants.

Looks like it's probably diatoms.

It looks like fish food to me but is this the tank with the 'sterilizer' unit in it?

Is it easy to brush off or vacuum off the plants or is it stuck on?

Looks like a bacterial bloom for whatever reason. Should go away if that’s the case.

Looks like fungus to me. Maybe uneaten food particles are settling on the tips of the plants, providing a good meal for the fungus.

The thing is, the fish is a bottom dweller, and receives sinking cichlids pellets and the occasional frozen food. My first thought was food as well. This is the same tank with the sterilizer.

Didn't you have another thread showing a similar white mess on the bottom of your tank?

This "white algae" sure looks like plain ol' fungus growing on uneaten food. Perhaps an uneaten pellet or two, or some particles of frozen food, that landed on the tips of those plastic rosettes and went undetected. I don't know how you feed your fish; do you throw an excess of food so that it scatters all over the tank, and then vacuum up the uneaten waste later? A lot of people seem to do it that way, and that method is asking for trouble...trouble that looks just like this.

What are all those small white dots throughout the water in those pictures?
