Depends on where you live. Paid $26 for my 8'' one. They are very gentle, but don't take crap at the same time...lol. Not vicious but do stand up for selves.
They grow slow too, bgk are really interesting once they're used to you. Very interactive fish. It would take it long enough to out grow the 55 in time for you to get a 75 or so to house it for life. They live up to 15 years or more, so be wise about buying one. They're very rewarding fish though.
Bgk are slow growers so you can still have time for you to buy a 75g tank. I bought my ghost Sept 2006 around 3 1/2 inch and now he's around 11 inch Try power feeding him to increase his growth spurt but not too much or he might encounter liver problems.
