so i think maybe my PFS iam using is contributing to my brown algea with my t5h0 light ! so i thought about switching my sand to something else, all though i want a white sand dont want super fine stuff as with such large fish when they swat there fins or tails it will cloud the tank like crazy....

right now i have is white Silurian pool filter sand that was bought at a local pool/spa place, ever since ive had it i have and get nothing but brown algea... ive switched lights from my 140g to my 75g so now the t5h0 is on my 75g which has gravel and i dont have a speck of brown algea just some green on my rocks in it, and i have a single t8 bulb on my 140g and dont have a speck of brown/green agea in the tank, and both lights are on 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm .... ive also took some sand outta my 140g andput it in the 75g were i have my t5h0 light right now to see if it grows brown algea on it after 3 days like it does with my 140g, and i only would have the t5h0 on for 5hrs on my 140g ....im getting very tired of havin to vaccum out my white sand every week when i really shouldnt have to at all

I have white play sand and multi-purpose sand from Home Depot.

12 hours is a lot of light. My 300 is on 10am to 8pm and may even scale it back.

i know that but is what im saying is 4-5 hrs on my 140g i have brown algea like a SOB but on my 75g i can leave the t5h0 on for 12hrs a day and have no effects....

coral sand is good.

Lapis Luster sandblasting sand. Best damn sand I've ever used. It also comes in a huge variety of sizes, going from large gravel size, to a very fine size. It also looks very natural. This stuff is so good, that local pet stores even stock it! On top of that, it's cheaper than pool filter sand.

PFS that I picked up at Leslie's, very easy to work with (heavy) requires a bit of cleaning but thats an easy task. :)
