I have this sand in every tank I own. Great stuff and the larger particle size keeps it on the bottom even with bottom dwellers. Cheap and really clean too

The problem with diatom algae is it feeds off silicates how often do you scrape the algae out? I spent about a month scraping it out of my tank and removing it before it stopped growing. Check your filters to, mine did not stop growing until I cleaned the algae out of the filters to.

i read your not suppose to scrap it off the glass or anything, and when i did i found it got worse... so i left it for just before doing a large WC 80% or left it for the cihinese algea eater i added couple weeks ago..and yea as far as i know all PFS is silica sand which feeds brown algea, and i dont have any brown or green algea in my filters, never noticed any at all andi only clean the filters out when needed once flow is reduced.. all though i have noticed after taking the t5h0 fixture off my tank and just having a t8 fixture on there i dont get ANY algea any all... so maybe between the t5h0 lights and silica in the sand and my crappy tap water (20ppm nitrate/1ppm phosphates) it was unbeatable with a bright nice light....but i can leave the t8 bulb on for 12 hrs a day with no effect in my tank at all

I use a brush so it actually sticks yo the brush. If you scrape be sure to vacuum after. Bristlenose plecos will eat it all up.
