Hey, my first thread!

I have a 300 gallon that has just finished completion. Dimensions are 80Lx35Wx25H, kind of wierd dimensions.

I would like to stock a large cat, but I'm not sure what. I was thinking maybe a type of shovelnose, or maybe just a channel cat-although I will have to give him away when he gets too big. I would like him to get around 24" and be able to defend himself in case my arowana gets fiesty.:irked:

My stocking list includes: silver arowana, oscar, and sometype of cat.

get a few lima shovelnose, theyre set for life in that thing
not sure if you could get away with a tsn though

What about an albino channel cat or a rtc.
never mind about the rtc, what about an albino channel?

well u figured out how big the rtc's get, and no that wouldn't work out for life. A channel cat still gets large, be it albino or blue...you should take a look at johnptc's webcam, he has an albino in there that is HUGE. Planet catfish says they max out at 27" which I find hard to believe personally, and I know we have caught larger channel cats than that out of the lake, but it would work for awhile with either, a few year anyway, so really it's up to you. Personally I'd get something that either stays under 30" for life or (and this is my favorite) buy it to "grow out" in your tank and start on your pond...

I like you brent!

VERY few channel cats ever get to the size of the one in Johns monster tank so i wouldn't worry about having to rehome a channel any time soon in a 300 gallon tank with that foot print.

One caution I have to make here...

Once you have a big cat long enough for it's size to become a problem the last thing on your mind will be giving it away...

Marbled Pim.

Awesome fish that would be set for life in there.

You are probably right there....
I guess it may be time to build a pond soon....
