What LED's are people using for Fish only displays?

Wow 129 watts of LEDs? How many fixtures u have on there using the beamswork? Isn't it like 0.06 watts per LED?

Until now I wasn't able to find any where that listed the watts per LED. So I assumed 1 watt per LED. But it would seem I was wrong. I didn't get the double power beamswork. A miscalculation on my part.

I also want to grow water hyacinth. The tank will either be a standard 90 or 120. Would any two led floodlights in a clamp lamp do the trick you think?

If they have a high enough lumen and are the right color temp they might. I've never used an LED Floodlight bulbs though. Just the complete fixtures. You might be able to light your tank enough to grow water hyacinth with 2 30watts. But from what I read water hyacinth require a lot of light.

You're just going to need to experiment.

My advice:
Buy 2-3 fixtures (they're cheap if you get the can type fixtures, etc...)
Buy whichever LED bulbs you think are going to work best for your set up. Keep the receipt. If they aren't right, take them back and exchange them. Lowes, Menards, etc... will all let you return for your money back or for exchange i you have your receipt. Just keep swapping them out until you get the right ones. I'd recommend ones that aren't in the red spectrum. Get something that's 6000K or higher (it'll be listed on the box).

Basically, buy 3 fixtures/bulbs. Keep the recept. Try out 2 and 3 fixture setups. Return bulbs as necessary. If you figure out you want just a 2 bulb setup, just return the 3rd fixture.

With a 90 and a 120 - Im pretty sure I will have just two openings to the tank.

So should I just get two really large ones? Or get four maybe?

Could you shoot me a link to the exact type of fixture you are referring to? Is this like a PAR38 fixture?

Thanks for your help guys.

Here is an example of a Flood light that I was talking about.

If you wanted something bigger you could just do a search for an LED Floodlight and the watt you want and just make sure the Kelvin is from 6000 to 7000. The 10watts are close to the size of a pop can. Here are some pics of different sizes. I used a mag float 350 for a size guide.

This is a 10w

This is an example of how 2 10w's look lighting a 55g tank. They aren't actually bright enough to keep my coontail growing so I am using a 4 foot florescent light (Not on in the pic) to go with the 10w's until I can get more LED lights.

Idk how that looks so dim, I had 4 10w leds on my 8'x4'x2' and I though it was too bright. Given the tank was only 24" tall, but for coverage I don't think i had any dark spots. If you are doing a 90g look up artyfish mixed pygo in YouTube, I think thats one 10w? Been a while since I've looked into those, but I really liked mine.

I'm the guy that bought your lights off of you and I can't figure out why its so dim either. I set up 2 of them on the 300 (which is 30" deep) and it is plenty bright enough for me, I would imagine that 55 would be bright enough to blind the poor fish. I love the lights though...one of my better fish related purchases.

Glad you like em, id honestly say 1 10w floodlight, just pick Bright white or cool white I think the color temps I've seen are either 6000-6500k or 4000-4300k

There aren't actually any dark spots. The dark areas you see is the light shinning over the back of the tank and creating a shadow. If the tank was fish only it would be plenty but if you want any significant plant growth you would need more. Also I have a cover over the tank that tends to block some of the light if I forget to keep it clean. I've also noticed that there are different Lumins, the auction I linked to has a choice of 750 lumin and 900.

I don't know what 10w your talking about but just 1 would defiantly leave dark spots. Especially in a 90g.
