i want a lungfish that is suitable for a predatory community setup. so my question is...what lungfish does well with tankmates? it would eventually be going in my (6 x 2 x 2) with my 16 and 18 inch florida/spotted gar, 15 inch tropical gar, and a 14+ inch silver aro. if necassary i will upgrade as required. my favorite is the australian, but not available and too pricey (for now).

what type of lung is this? south american?

please list the "tankmate friendly" lungs and their availability/price.

thanks in advance,

No its not south american lungfish (Lepidosiren paradoxa) but thats what you are looking for. African lungs like the one in your picture above can be fine with tankmates then one day for whatever reason they are known to turn on them-Anne

the picture looks like Protoperus annectens (west african lungfish)

and this my friends is how you raise your post count lol

that's an african lung. SAL are much friendlier to tankmates

are south americans the more sleder bodied ones? do any of the south americans have the thicker body? ive read in quite a few places the SA Lungs are the more docile ones. anyone have pics of the various SA species?

thanks again

I thought there was only 1 species of SAL?

btw, did you know that the marbled african lung has the largest genome of any living creature on earth :)

WALs aren't hard to find at all. I've had one for a while now, and he actually isn't too bad with tankmates as long as they aren't in his area. I actually had my WAL with a spotted gar and they were fine together...but when I moved an AT dat in there because he was beating on my other dats, I woke up to a headless dat. :irked: I do keep him alone when I can...and I would definitley recommend doing the same if you decide on a WAL.

thanks for the info. do you know where i could find an african lung (post a link possibly)? i may try a small one and grow it out...that way i could try gauging its aggressiveness before putting it in the larger tank.
