What makes a monster?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd agree with the size and if they are higher up on the food chain. Snapping Turtles are APEX predators and gnarly as hell, definitely a monster "fish".

Really?

Well, I don't think of any of mine as monsters.
To me, a monster fish is like a friggin great white shark, dude will eat you for lunch.
Or maybe one of those 32ft giant sturgeons, a salt water moray eel, a barracuda, or true piranha.

However, from what I've seen on other forums, anything other than a guppy, platty or some other feeder fish is a monster.

Sadly too many people are keeping "monster" fish in "not so monster" tanks these days.

I couldn't agree with you more! Some people put arowana and other fish that get large in tanks so small you couldn't cuss a catfish without getting fur in your teeth.

Them again that can be attributed in part to the LFS trying to make a quick buck and not caring what happens once the fish is bagged and out the door. Its all too common down here. Thank goodness for forums like this and the people on them.

Monster tanks are just as big in making someone a monster fishkeeper. It takes more then just a big fish to make someone a monster keeper. IMO a Monster Fishkeeper is any person who devotes far more time and money into the hobby then the average joe to keep the fish that they love even if its a 210g tank for a guppy.
