What makes AC110's so great ? How much clearance is neccesary?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

I know i might get some backlash for what i'm about to say, but for my money the emp400 is the filter to buy it's cheap, quiet, easy to maintain, and there are endless media options you can easily do. I know other filters can do the same but i have never had one burn out on me, and all my tanks look great. Plus i only clean it once a month when i change the media. I don't mean to start a manufactures war here i'm sure AC's r great i've just never used them an have always been happy with my emp400's
Actually I have heard good things about the emperor 400's and was considering them seriously.

I run both and like the ac110's way better. Move a ton more water.

Well its hooked up on my tank now. quiet ! and the design is much better than other HOB's in certain aspects. I like it so far Ill let you know what I think in 24 hours if I have any floaters. It moves a TON of water :) My jack dempsey is hiding from the waterflow lol i guess they dont like fast moving water. Too bad for him I guess with a 300 GPH HOB
An AC110 a eheim 2215 and an undergravel plus my bubble wall thats powered by a whisper 10-30 (Lots of bubbles)
is quite a bit of filtration and movement :) I like it so far

Def good advice. I have a 55g with the same eheim 2215 but have a Whisper70 which is def not quiet. I'll be switching over to ac110 once my tank fully cycles. How quiet is that whisper air pump? I want some bubbles :)

I got two actually the dual outlet model I believe its called the 30-60
and the single outlet model the 10-30

They are virtually silent unless you are within like 2-3 feet of them. The single outlet powers my bubble wall and does a damn fine 18" stream of bubbles

the 30-60 (dual outlet) does a great job at powering both my under gravel lift tubes.

Awsome. Will def take your advice. This is of topic but what do you stock in your tank?

thats not alot... i have 2 ac110s, an eheim 2213, a 100g protein skimmer, 3 600gph powerheads, and 1 240 gph powerhead on my 55 gallon reef. :D thats 62.7x turnover!
Seeing as powerheads dont count as filtration, we can bump that down by 37.1x turnover... Than again, unless you protein skimmer (which I hope runs at 100gph, and doesnt contain 100g!) is actually filtering something (mechanically, biologically, or chemically) then we can move the filttration turnover to 62.7x to 23.78x. Though you might have 62.7x turnover in total, most of it is just moving water, filtration is just 23.78x turnover...

I have about 16 2/3 turnover(filtration wise) on my 75 gallon tank (with 90g of water) and I am on the verge of adding quite a bit more (xp4, which would add 450gph or 6 more times turnover)... I am pretty sure that you could never have too much filtration, though it is entirely possible getting carried away with current.
