lately there have been people breeding flowerhorns with blood parrots to get a parrot shaped fish with a green pearl FH coloration. . . . i've seen them called bonzais but i don't know if that's an official name.

I believe they are called black parrots. I have quite a few of them of different sizes and you can see both characteristics of the parrot and flowerhorn.

I thought parrot fish were sterile and could not be bred???
Is this true? I totally love parrots and if I could breed them I WOULD!
Mine lay eggs all the time but like I said I been told they are sterile....
ARE THEY?? anyone ever had babies??????
thanks everyone

Theres roughly a 2-4% chnce that your BP's are fertile. They can spawn, but only 1-6 out of every batch are fertile. They have been bred many a time, but it can take quite a while to find fertile BP's, let alone a pair.

Thats a bummer, You goto make the goto get 2 species for BP fry.... shame....

Wow I always thought they never had fry...thanks for the the hope!!!
LOL...I would like to try it. I have one that lays eggs all the time but won't let the other BP near the eggs. they never get bad...just eaten by my other fish in the tank...
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a possibility of a Texas cihlid breeding with a Flower horn? I have a few of them and was wondering if they can breed between themselves.

noone knows the exact parent species of the flowerhorn.

Only the original breeders know exactly which species they crossbred to create the Flowerhorn cichlid. Given the vast amount of mixing, it is doubtful any recorded details of hybridisations exist.
