What Med to use???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine was not this bad but it was smashed bad enough that he could not eat. I still think it will be ok. I wouldn't worry about it not eating. I am training mine onto pellets now and he goes 7-14 days between eating until I break down and give him shrimp. I would try to upgrade the tank asap. Mine was banging himself bad at 9-10" in a 125 and I will probably move him from his 240 into a bigger tank soon. As long as no fungus or infection sets in I would still not treat with meds. They are an extremely fast healing fish. Good luck and keep us updated.

Little off topic... but I had 3 Tata (red Tail Payara @9") and I could not get them off live foods. So I starved them fro 3 weeks at a time and added an Aro. By the time I moved them to a temp tank (cause of re-modeling), 1 was taking shots and 3 days later, all were off live foods 100%. Ask All-Happy or the new owner Jgnyugen74.
I think the key to getting live eaters off live-foods is a slow eater like an Aro so they see them eat. JMO:D

As for my GATF, I will do my best to get himback to 100%
Thanks

I know CPR, so his chances are improving by the sec:naughty::ROFL:
Dang, It hurts to see him in that pic. Thats to be I have not seen him since:cry:
Everytime he hits the glass, thats $-5 dollars:ROFL:

EDIT: I would recommend a contact antibiotic (NOT AN ANTIBIOTIC BATH!!!), but take great care in using it on that type of damage. [/quote]

Can you be more specific with what type of contact antibiotic?

Any Neomycin sulfate-based contact antibiotic (like Neosporin), which has proven capability to lessen/diminish scarring in regrown tissue. Damage that bad may need some help in preventing infection. Betadine is a contact disinfectant, but cannot be used around the eyes or mouth, so an antibiotic may be a better approach.

Hikari manufactures a wound treatment called "Bio-Bandage" that is neomycin and methylene blue, but also mentions keeping clear of gills, eyes, and mouth.

Good luck!
