Hi I'm new to the aquarium scene. I have a XP4 that I will use to filter a 75G Planted Tank with 5 Adult Carib Piranha (overstocked).

I'm trying to figure out the right Media to use in order to have crystal Clear water.

What I have so Far:

Filter Pads

30Pp (2 pads), 20Pp (2 pads) and 1 Micro-Filtration pad

Bio Media

5 Liters Filstar Ceramic Rings

Chemical Media

1 Pack of Biochem-Zorb (Activated Carbon w/ Resin)

Do I have the right Media in place for "Polished" tank water ? This Tank has not been setup yet so I can still play around in terms of what Media to get.

What else should I get or replace in terms of media ? Thanks for any help you can provide to this complete newb. :)

Do you have this up and running? and for how long?

purigen works wonders, but you can only use prime with it.

Once you set up the tank, and "cycle" it, you'll be ready to worry about polished water.
You might have it already covered with your fine filter pads...
Where are the adult P's now?

The idea is that I want the right setup now so I don't have to wait or make major adjustments once the tank is cycled. I will plant the tank first and add the P's later. Buy from a store.

well ya kinda have to wait till you're cycled to see what grade of polishing pads you need...

"Prime" is a dechlorinator from the Seachem company...in order for "Purigen" to work, the company claims you have to use "Prime" to dechlorinate the water.

but...
If you just dechlorinate the water, set up your cannister as per the manufacturers directions, and use pure ammonia to cycle your tank, you'll be better off in the long run...

Google "fishless cycling" to get a feel for the nitrogen cycle.

Remember the fewer chemicals you put in the water the better...

My tank is fully cycled i'm just adding the purigen to help with water clarity do you have to use prime first off or is it only after you have regenerated the purigen?
