What method of cycling did you use and why

I don't understand what's so hard to believe. Cycling tanks is never a problem for me anymore since I use Stress Zyme. There are bottles of nitrifying bacteria for saltwater tanks as well......

I use the hardy fish method, but I also use the very lightly stocked intially method. For example I cycled my 60 gallon with a small pleco and then slowly added live stock.

I add cycled media from other good tanks. And then do a fishless cycle. No matter how much old media you use you will still have a small cycle. But by adding cycled media you can lower the time by weeks.---------------------I do this cause i like to add all my stock at once adn after you cycle your tank fishless it is ready to handle the max bio load of the system.

And be very leary of those bottled cyclers. There have been alot of studies done about them and only one of them was proven to work. The name has slipped my mine but it had to be refridgerated and had a very short shelf life.

I use 100% old media from various established tank on the new one...add a dose of Stress Zyme, and a scoop of gravel from the 150G. I also usually stock the new tank up relatively slow, I add about 1/3 my final stock initially and go from there.

i cycle without some fish for a week, then add a school of barbs or minnows, leave for 3-6 weeks, then add my fish and see whats left of the minnows or barbs the next morning.

so by using old filter media, you mean you just put the old filter cartridges in your new one and let it go or what? im trying to cycle a 70 and im not sure the best approach

I just took water out of the old tank I had, used the same external filter for a week and then things were fine.

Basically all the water from the old tank and added a bit of fresh water. Gave it a couple of days and then filled it all up.

This was going from a 30 to a 100g.
