Hey everyone, still getting my trickle filter together. Im still 100% unsure what to exactly put in the top two drawers. Wanted to put 2 mechanical filtration pads for both drawers. Looking for cheap pads off amazon that can be routinely changed. They have felt pads that can be rewashed but i don't know I think completely tossing out the pads and putting new ones in is better for the system. On amazon they have what looks like poly pads for cheap running from 50 micron size to 5. Micron size more than 50 would most likely have to be either felt pads or coarse pads however they don't have micron ratings for those. Was thinking from 100micron top drawer to 5 than again have feeling it would clog extremely fast to the point of overflow with the 5. Unless minimum should be 50 or 100 microns?? Any ideas? Getting the storage drawers tomorrow finally to get the measurements so i can order the sump

I'd do 200 micron, anything less will have you changing it often. I run 3 x 200 micron socks and with all the wood and zucchini eating plecos in my tank they have to be changed every other day. I have great water clarity with the 200's

washing vs throwing away is about money vs time. If you don't mind the money, go for it.

For size there are a lot of factors. Crystal clear water va changing daily. But also really small particles can be broken down or settle elsewhere in the sump. It's what you vacuum out.

I'd agree with the above. 100-200 microns is good. 50 would be an extreme polish. 5 would probably need a pressurized filter and daily cleaning.

Ok thanks guys, I'll look around for either 200 micron pads to go on top and 50 micron on the bottom before hits the bio media or maybe something higher than 200 micron. Thanks appreciate it!

looks like I can't find pads rated at 200 microns so I think I'm going to try 100 micron pads on top and 50 or less microns in the second drawer I personally don't mind changing it out every day. However of course if for some reason everything is clogging to quickly I will probably try to find a less dense pad on top and a 100 micron felt pad in the second drawer
