so should i try to breed this dude? or wait to see how big he gets? or if he changes. :D
I don't think he will do any changing color wise he looks half grown to me so i think he's got some growing to do and yeah u should find him a exotic gf i always like to see some funky hybrids.:grinno:

all barred Amphilophus midas types have completely vertical bars with none of them intersecting. convicts have a similar Y bar behind the head similar to that of a festae. you can see that similar Y bar on the fish here in question. IMO, that fish is much more likely a full grown male convict than it is an Amphilophus anything (unless hybrid with convict). the only reason I suggested convict/midas hybrid in my first post is because of the odd coloration, though I used to have a juvie convict with similar color. my convict grew out of the odd color though and when it got larger had the same color as a typical striped convict.

hi all. i've had this fish since april 06. and i never really figured out what it is. figured i'd post it on here, and see what ppl think. he is ussualy purple with bars, but have seen him all blackish/brown dark. he is starting to grow a kok. and he is around 5". he also has a very nice blue color along his chest and gills.

ok at first look it appears to have convict in it. but i think its possibly something more interesting. picked what appeared as a pair in a LFS, they didn't know what they were and sold the pair for $5. Lost female couple months ago. when i went on vacation. :(

sorry for darn water marks on glass, didn't notice them till after pics were taken. also that freaking alge just won't give up :( only tank i got with this prob. (so far) :irked:

no! its no convict., its a Super Red Syn..
