Getting a 220 gal.
I have a 300 gal wet-Dry and an FX5.
Now I have the same set up on a 210 and it seems to just barley make it with the amount of fish I have in there now.
Wondering if I should add an additional FX5 or skip the FX5's all together and get something bigger.
Also,I'm on a budget, so it can't be crazy expensive.

If you're just looking for added biological filtration a fluidized sand filter would do the trick.

What makes you think what you have is just barely working though? Sounds like it should be more than enough.

Don't really know anything about them.

If by barely working you mean junk on the substrate you can add a powerhead too stir the water up so it gets into your filters. If the need is biological filtration like Rally's said a FBF is your best bet on the cheap. All it requires is a small pump and the filter, in exchange you get absolutely massive bio filtration.

I see some for sale but they don't mention what size pump to use or anything about them.
Any stickies or articles on these things????

Most of my information comes from manufacturers websites. Lifegard makes a good one. You can really use any pump you please, just make a bypass too control the amount of flow moving through the filter. This type of filter requires a slow flow, as slow as possible. Just enough too suspend the sand in the column.

So it will need something like a ball valve to control the flow?

-Also, would u recommend the largest one or a couple small ones linked, or one that matches what is reccomend by the mf?

Maybe add an aquaclear110 or emperor400 power filter? If you have room between tank and wall that is. Just a thought...power filters are the only type I have experience with.

Sorry dude,
that won't cut it. :mr-t:

Maybe connect a Ocean Clear or something to your Wet/dry? a 300gallon wet/dry and fx5 sounds like it should be getting the job done. Are you looking into more bio or mechanical?
