What plants to use with Monster fish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would recommend Anubias and Java Ferns as they aren't very demanding. They can be tied down to driftwood and/or rocks. Depending on how powerful your lights are Amazon Swords and Cryptocoryne would also be an easy plant. Sagittaria and Vallisneria can also be easily used as well. I think plants would work fine with that stock.

What would you recommend for a 330 gallon tank with a stock listing of 1 Arowanna, various Vieja's and some loaches?

Coralife 96w x 4
Solarmax ho 78w x 2
Solarmax he 42w x 2
t-12 30w x3
I have them on for 7hrs alternating half of the lights off for 30min every three hours or so.
Co2 with a pH controller set at 6.8
KH at 6

Depending on how many plants you have, they probably aren't absorbing enough nutrients to out compete with the algae. Algae can be tricky as you need to find a balance with lighting. Since you only have Anubias, Java Ferns, and Jungle Vals at the moment, they are pretty undemanding on the lighting. Maybe cut back on your lighting by a couple of hours and see if the algae spreads. As for the current algae in your tank...I've learned that manual removal is the quickest and easiest way to deal with that.

I'm not too familiar with Viejas, but Cichlids are diggers which makes it very difficult to aquascape a tank with plants. The only plants I would suggest are Anubias and Java Ferns tied down to rocks and/or Driftwood.

I decided to get on Siamese algae eater and it's working out great. He is going around my plants and eating a lot of the algae on them. he has a lot of hiding spots too.

Legalize Arowanas!
