Planted tanks depend alot on your substrate...............large fish, sand, and plants probably a waste of time..............a rock / clay mix is your best bet and it should be several inches deep 4-5.....................next are you going to use co2 alot of plants require this addition and high co2 levels are very unhealthy for fish . EXcell has been known to cause hith in sa/ca's. ..............For no co2 brazillian spears, dwarf pond lillies and onion grass work well but do require an 11 k bulb ...................anibus and java fern also no co2 and can live in the standard 550k lightning but need to be attached to rocks or driftwood or their ryhzomes will die off if planted in soil.......................either or make sure the Dovii is a small juvi when doing this gives the plants a year to root heavily .............. ferts should be added weekly but several days after water changes so the chloramine/chlorine killer doesn't dissolve the heavy metals in the fert. My RT's digg all day long and stop at the plants as if it were the end of their boundries.
