ok, i have a 25 gallon tank with one 2" male convict and about 30 fry. I have been having an algae problem on and off, (brown), and I'm considering getting a pleco to help alleviate some of the issue. Is there any pleco (type and size) that would go good in my tank, and not cause problems?

A smaller species like a bulldog Pleco. Common will get way too big. Pretty much any smaller species but once those convicts grow if u don't move him he's gonna have no fins just warning.

i have had plecos in with convicts and have had no problems. I think that bulldogs would do fine...as long as the tank ist planted. the bulldogs heart plants.

I have 2 Clithon Corona Nerite snails in my convict tank. They have spikes so the fish tend to leave them alone and they are excellent algae eating machines!

thanks!

Brown algae is also a sign of high ph and nitrates just to let you know. Sorry for the triple post

How can I lower the ph? =/

driftwood, peat moss.... etc.... a bristlenose is an algae eating machine and would do well in there IMO.

I wouldn't bother messing with the pH, that usually leads to more trouble than leaving it as it is. I would deal with the nitrates ASAP
