my bristlenose used to start fights my larger green terror. the terror always lost. they can fight if they have to or want to. dont let the fact that they are a pleco make you think they are soft and dont have the tools for fighting. other than the weekly squabble with the GT, the BN got on fine with a gold sev, P. loisellei, uaru A., blue acara, oscar and firemouths. hated my bulldog plec i had though and eventually killed it.
