Ive kept commons and clown plecos with my africans but want something new but stays small. I like the gold nugget but will it do ok with a 8.0pH? What other plecos will do fine with 8.0 and stay under 6"?

I just got a Clown (1.5-2") he seems to be fine. My Ph is pretty neutral, but I have hard water coming from the tap. He found a little cave and only reallly comes out once the actinics are on or at night. He is making some strides on cleaning the rocks close to and around his cave. I've read somewhere on MFK that Royals can tollerate the AC parms. It seems that bristlenoses are used a lot in these setup's. A LFS has a HUGE 10"+ Royal that has been in there AC show tank for months. Have also seen catus and scarlets in other AC setups in that shop. Don't know how long theve been there though.

ive got a regular old pleco and he does well and holds his ground against the bullies...

bristle nose works well.

Ditto on that. Bristlenose plecos will hold their own (especially males) , stay under 6" and will keep your tank algae free.

I have a bristle nose pleco and I dont exactly rember what the other one is but its brownish with yellow stripes and they do fine.

Personally I would'nt try any pleco just cause they need a diferent ph than africans, of course the're are some that can live with a higger ph but it would affect their healt, better get some synodontis, gold nugget plec's are too beautilful to risk their life...just my two cents

I have kept pretty much a fair share of plecos with my africans from golden nugget to my blue phantom which i have curently with them.

bristlenose all the way. Love my pair in with my africans just waiting on some babies now!!!
