I am interested if there are some plecos that can withstand this harder water that we have here. I am interested in some royals, gold nuggets, and a few other but at the LFS they keep them at about 6.0 and pretty soft water. Do they need to be that soft?

I can only help you with the ones I have. L30, L102, L190, L191, and a Hypostemus(sp?). My water is: PH 8.0 and GH about 11-12. I use a neutral buffer on my tap water to drop it to 7.0

All of them are doing great.

Thanks, those were 3 of the ones I saw at the LFS that I had in question.

I assume you have them in somewhat hard water since your avatar is an african cichlid. Thanks for the help.

i have hard alkaline high ph water.I breed bushynose plecos, keep l134 royal, clown and some others no issues.Stable high quality water is more important than a specific parameter for MOST species.

Yes all three are in my AC tank and doing fine. The Royal has a slightly beat up tail since his home behind the overflow is where a Julie. and a Chalinochromis say during the day. A few scuffels but the Royal def. holds his ground and all is good. I do have a decent amount of fish in the tank so I do anywhere from 20-40% water changes weekly. I've added driftwood to the tank and none of the plecos have used it yet,(that I know of). Lots of rocks and caves for hiding spots for the cichlids, plecos and cats.
